Hi, I'm, Josh. Welcome to Breathe. When I first saw the spike in people getting into ice baths, I thought it was just the next trend, I hated the cold and couldn’t fathom why anyone would want to voluntarily put themselves in cold water. I was a firefighter at the time, and had been struggling with my mental health for a while, I had been going through conventional therapy, anti depressant’s and nothing seemed to be working. I knew that I needed to take a different approach and that’s when I decided to completely shake things up. I stopped taking medication and set about on a journey of self discovery, exposing myself to new environments such as Spiritual Centres and Holistic Practices, here I learnt how to meditate, found a passion for the outdoors and began getting connected with nature, this lead to my first experience of Cold Water Therapy. I had been visiting a water fall and noticed people getting into the water, despite the cold weather. This got me curious and I decided to have a go myself, I really struggled with this initially, often hyperventilating just at dipping my toe in the water. Over time, and after many failed attempts, I finally managed to fully submerse myself in the cold water, it was here where I started to understand why people were doing it. Once my body adapted to the cold, I found myself in a state of tranquility, for the first time in a long time I had found some stillness and a quietening of the mind. This is where my passion for the cold water stems from as it has helped me immeasurably, it has now become a part of my daily practice and I love that I’m able to share it with other people, encouraging people to step out of their comfort zone. I also facilitate guided meditation and breathwork, and often incorporate both of these methods into the ice bath experience.
